He plowed himself in the front door late not really knowing where he was or how he got there. And being Remus Lupin, this wasn’t a feeling he was too acquainted with. All he remembers of that night was an unbearable need to get out of that hell house some refer to as number 12 Grimmauld Place.

He looked at the clock in the living room he was stumbling through and noticed it was two in the morning. He would have stayed longer at the pub if they hadn’t of kicked him out. But even he would have if he was the bartender. He had to admit it to himself; he hadn’t been this plastered since his Marauder days.

This thought brought a turn in his stomach. He didn’t want to think about all those years ago when he, Sirius, James and, hell, even Peter (the rat) were care free teens just wanting to have fun and not worrying about getting older. He knew he would give anything to have these times back. Not think about the Order, his unemployment, or the fact that he was getting close to forty. NO, I’m thirty six! He would try to convince himself, but inside he knew he wasn’t nineteen any more either. And drowning all his troubles in a glass of fire whiskey wasn’t going to do anything but give him a nasty hangover in the morning.

He decided that he was going to go and get a glass of water and hopefully something to eat from the kitchen and then attempt to sleep. But as he descended the stairs he heard a ‘thud’ then a mumble that sounded like someone, preferably a female, say “bugger” then swearing her clumsiness. Lupin knew exactly who it was.

Nymphadora Tonks was restless. She couldn’t sleep and she knew precisely why. The dreams she had been having since Sirius death and the battle at the Department of Mysteries had been getting more realistic every time she tried to sleep. But they always ended when, in her real life, she fell and blacked out. Part of her wanted to see what happened next, Sirius falling though the veil; just to make sure it was all real, but the other part of her never wanted to think about that day again. So since she couldn’t sleep that night she decided to head down to the kitchen for a late night snack.

The lights were on and he could easily see her, but she didn’t see him. Until, well until her was standing right next to her, proceeding to scare the living shit out if her. So of course her being Tonks dropped the mug she was holding and it shattered on the floor.

“Remus, oh Merlin you scared me, don’t ever do that to anyone.” She said trying to catch her breath.

“Sorry Nympha…” he stopped when he saw the look on her face, “fine sorry Tonks. Why are you down her?”

“Couldn’t sleep, you? We didn’t see you after the meeting, well yesterday.”

“Well I went out, nothing special just out.”

Tonks took a small step forward and took a small sniff then exclaimed, “You’re drunk aren’t you!”

Remus sighed sitting down at the kitchen table, “Among other things.”

“Oh, don’t say you’re stoned too.”

“What no! Of course not. Sirius would have found a way to come back to kick my arse if I were.” He gave a bitter laugh.

“True” she said laughing also.

They both stopped suddenly when they realized what they did. They were talking about Sirius! Sirius! DEAD Sirius! How could they do that and then laugh? These thoughts were going through both of their heads extremely fast.

Remus was beginning to feel sick, whether it was because of all he drank or his guilt he didn’t know, but he still felt like he needed to get to either a bathroom or a wastebasket as soon as he could.

Suddenly, though the sickness left him when he heard the sobs coming from Tonks. He didn’t know what to do. She looked so vulnerable standing there in her pajamas, which consisted of a pair of sweat pants, camisole, and a bath robe. He could see the small tears sliding neatly down her face easily. And before he knew what he was doing, and before he could stop himself, he was up from his seat and hugging her.

She didn’t know why she stared to cry, most of the time she was never a crying person. But she, for some reason, couldn’t stop the tears this time. Also it took her a moment to realize he was hugging her. She knew somewhere on the inside she was smiling being so close to him. All she could do right then was wrap her arms around him and hope that she could feel that safe forever, because that’s what she felt. Safe. In his arms nothing bad could happen. In that simple hug she forgot the war, the threat against Harry, and Sirius’ death. And unknown to her, he felt the same way.

It did heal natural to them, being so close, consoling each other on someone they both loved so well. They didn’t know how long they stayed in the embrace but neither of them really cared, neither of them wanted to brake apart. But as we all know, all the good things have to end and go away sometime, as did this. He released her and sat back down examining where she left a huge wet spot on his shoulder.

She stepped back and leaned up against the counter, feeling embarrassed and not knowing what to say. So she said the first thing that came to mind: “Would you like some tea?”

“Yes, sure, that would be lovely.”

“Right” Then she put the kettle on.

She already had her mug out so she went to get him one also, but again, her being who she was, a complete and total klutz, she dropped it and it shattered.

Remus couldn’t help but grin a bit at this. True she was a klutz, but she was the sort of endearing klutz. That was what made her so adorably beautiful. The word adorable left that thought though when he heard her mumble something under her breath, that consisted of words that would have made her mother scold her and would have made Sirius proud. This made his smile widen. Whether it was the thought of Tonks or Sirius, he wasn’t sure nor did he care.

Before he could contemplate it he was down on the kitchen floor helping her pick up the pieces of plaster. Down on his knees he made sure not to cut himself at the sharp points. And in the corner of his eye he saw Tonks doing the same, however, not succeeding. He was quick to get a clean towel and wipe off the small cut she had from the broken mug. Then she did it, she looked up at him.

Oh Merlin, those eyes, she thought. They were amazing, almost golden and seemed to pierce right though you. They WERE simply gorgeous.

Both hesitated, contemplating what they were going to do next. And the other, of course, didn’t know what the other was thinking. They were however thinking the same thing. But thoughts left when their lips touched.

Truly a chaste kiss at the start, but then it started to show more passion, desire, and need. When her tongue (A/N-Yeah this is when it gets ‘steamy’ if you’re that childish to call it that. if it offends you… STOP READING!) asked for permission to enter his mouth, he eagerly agreed, copying her movements. They had to break away eventually though, needing to breath. So when they did they both breathed heavily.

Then they looked at each other. Neither of them knew how to explain it but there was this sort of agreement between them. An agreement without either of them saying a word.

It was just for tonight, or what was left of it that is. There was no one else in the house, the Weasley’s where at the Burrow, and the rest of the Order was at their own respected homes. It was just for tonight. Tomorrow none of this will have happened. They would go on with their own lives forgetting this.

But that was a load of bull, and honestly, right then and there, neither of them cared. They started kissing again, even more deeply then before.

They slowly rose from the floor and were now standing straight. He slowly pushed her towards the wall and when her back was against it her started trailing kisses down her throat. She let out a small moan and pulled up his head to kiss him again, then whispering in his ear, “Bedroom.”

He stopped abruptly and looked at her. He never was someone to do something like this, sleeping with someone to him had to have more commitment then this. But as he looked at her he saw what he knew had to be in his eyes, need. They both needed, if only that night to feel something more then pain, more then the suffering tied in with the war, they, frankly, needed to feel alive. So when he looked at her they made another agreement or just a tie to their last, depending on how you see it: it was just for tonight.

As they ascended the stairs, sometimes stopping for a kiss or a grope that’s what was going through their minds, it’s just for tonight, it’s just for tonight.

But as they fell on the bed, ‘just for tonight’ turned into something that would end up being something they wouldn’t be able to ignore.
