Disclaimer: I do not own the world of Harry Potter. It, as always, belongs to JKR.

AN: This story starts out in the trio’s fourth year.

Chapter 1

As Remus Lupin walked down the streets of London on a hot summer night, he couldn’t help but think about the events of the last couple of weeks. Ever since he resigned from his position as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, his life had started going down hill.

The events in the shrieking shack kept playing through his head as he continued to walk with nowhere in particular as his destination. Needless to say, the events that had unfolded that night would forever be engrained in his mind. He continued to wonder how his life had been different if things had worked out differently. Many what ifs kept running through his mind.

What if Pettigrew hadn’t escaped? What if Sirius had been able to prove his innocence and walked away a free man? What if it hadn’t been a full moon that night? Would things have ended differently? Would he have been able to prevent Pettigrew from escaping?

As these thoughts kept running through his mind he couldn’t help but feel guilty. “If only I hadn’t transformed,” he muttered to himself as he came to a stop in front of a muggle bar.

“Why not,” he said to himself as he entered the bar. “A couple of drinks wouldn’t hurt.”

As Nymphadora Tonks descended the stairs leading into the smoked filled bar, she felt a sense of accomplishment wash over her. Finally, after many months of searching, they had finally managed to capture one of the Death Eaters that was still known to be on the loose. Now it was time to celebrate. After all, it had been a long time since she had let herself go and just have fun.

As she entered the bar, she noticed a man sitting at the end of the bar by himself. By his appearance he seemed to be a man who had seen better days. He didn’t look like he wanted company, but she decided to go and talk to him any way.

As she made her way towards the stranger, she had no idea that this man would change her life forever.

Lupin looked up from his third or fourth drink, he wasn’t sure which, to see a beautiful, young woman walking towards him. She had jet black hair and was wearing a tight black dress. When he realized that she was coming towards his table he began to feel a little nervous.

“Can I sit here?” she asked, once she had reached the table.

“Uh, sure,” he answered, trying to figure out why a beautiful girl like herself would want to be seen with a man like himself.

“Are you waiting for anybody?” she asked.

“No.”

“Good. I’m here by myself as well and would like a little company. Do you mind?”

“No, I don’t mind,” he said, trying to focus on what she was saying and not stare down the front of her dress as she leaned forward so that they could hear each other over the noise of the bar.

“What’s your name?”

“Remus.”

“That’s an interesting name. Remus what?”

“Lupin.”

“Remus Lupin. Its different but I like it.”

“What yours?”

“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” she said teasingly.

“Now that’s not fair,” Remus joked back

“Who said life was fair?” she said as she ordered a drink for herself. “Do you want one, it’s on me.”

“No that’s okay.”

“Come on, just one drink. Please.”

“Okay.” Even as he watched her order the drinks he knew that he was getting in over his head. He had already had too many drinks as it was. Not being able to handle liquor was not always a bad thing, just one of the many curses of being a werewolf.

As the night wore, on the two continued to engage in polite, and at times, provocative conversation. Remus had not been able to stop at just that one drink, and now he was really felling the effect that the alcohol was having on him.

“Come on, Remus, dance with me.”

“Fine, but only one dance.”

As they headed towards the dance floor, a slow song started to play. As he held her close, his body began to react to the closeness of her. When the song ended, they started to head back to their table when she tripped. Luckily, even in a drunken state, his reflexes were quick and he was able to catch her before she fell. “I think you have had a little too much to drink,” he said, as he helped her get her balance

“Probably so, maybe I should be heading back to my room.”

“Do you want any help?”

“If you don’t mind.”

When Remus had escorted her back to her room and she had managed to get the door unlocked she turned back to look at him. Before he could say anything she stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the lips. What started out as a simple kiss soon became more passionate. As the kiss continued he started pushing her into her room, kicking the door shut behind him.

Neither one of them were thinking of the consequences that might arise from this night of passion as they frantically undressed each other, both wanting to feel the skin to skin contact that they were both craving. As their passion increased, the only thing that the two of them could think about was finding comfort in each others arms: one wanting to make the world around him to just disappear and the other wanting to forget about all of the responsibilities that she had and just have fun.

As they rode the waves of passion together neither one of them knew just what the future held from them.

When Tonks woke up the next he found the bed beside her empty. “He didn’t even tell me goodbye,” she uttered to herself as she begin to get dressed.

Unbeknownst to her there was a man walking down the streets of London wondering just what had he done last night. “Why did I do it? Why did I let the monster in me take control?”

As he reached his flat he realized one thing. He didn’t even know her name.

One month later

Tonks was sitting on her bed in her London apartment looking at herself in the mirror, thinking about that fateful night a little over a month ago “How could I have been this stupid? As many times as my mother warned me, I still went out and did it.”

“What am I going to do? How am I supposed to handle this problem? How am I going to tell my mother that I am pregnant and the only thing I know about the father is his name?

As Tonks thought about telling her parents that she was pregnant, she broke down in tears, realizing just how lonely she felt at the given moment in time.
