Turn Off the Century by ShesCrafty [Reviews - 1]

"Turn Off The Century"
Saw my reflection, covered in glass
How it reminds me of you
Broken like a vision, an unfinished season
Terror had struck me, but all I could see is your soft skin
And I wondered
Inside the workhouse, you mind your own business
And I had the courage of two
And as I requested a lapse in your presence
I couldn't think of anything important to say
So I wondered
When this day will end
Yeah, I wondered if we'd speak again.
Yeah, I wonder....

lyrics by Pete Yorn

Remus stood in the very back of the Knight Bus upon spying an all too familiar far climbing aboard. While Nymphodora Tonks, hadn't been his first love, she would certainly be his last. It had become far too dangerous for him to even be in the same vicinity as she. She who had made his heart skip a beat from the day they met. Although Sirius had always chided him about his feelings for Tonks, he had never imagined in his wildest dreams that she could feel the same way for him

After Sirius' abrupt death, she had turned to him as an old friend in need of a shoulder to cry on and he all too eagerly took her down, down on the floor of her small, cramped apartment and claimed her as his. He could see the bite marks from where he stood and despite himself, longed to run his tongue over the healing wound. Tonks herself claimed not to have been even slightly surprised by his actions, for she had long ago noticed the way the older gentleman’s eyes caressed the soft curves of he frame. As if sensing his very presence, Tonks, turned on her heals and matched eyes with the recently elusive lover. Remus felt his temperature rising as she met his heated gaze, but it was too late for all of that now. He had learned once and for all that the animal could not be separated from the man and knew that his place from now on was that of distant admirer. Coking her head slightly to the left, Tonks' deep brown eyes silently beckoned Remus to return to her. Remus felt his heart sink as he looked upon her sad face, she looked worn out and miserable and he knew that it was all his fault. He had no business becoming involved with her to begin with and now that they had both sampled their own forbidden Eden, there was no turning back. Knowing they were already in too deep, he had to break it off, for she had no idea that kind of monster she had been laying with.

Remus took his leave of Tonks, two stops before where he was headed. Her very smell had awakened the beast within, and one more second in her presence could have easily resulted in a lapse in judgement. His sweet, clumsy girl didn’t deserve the pain he would inevitably cause her both emotionally an physically. He had already destroyed any chance of her finding another mate and knew that somehow she would be much better off without him. Watching the bus fade away into the darkness of the night, Remus could feel the animal within cry out to the new moon above. His little taste of Heaven with Tonks left him wondering about all of the things he would miss out on in his life; a wife, children and more than anything else, love. For him it was often hard to distinguish between love and lust, while the beast cried out for carnal satisfaction, the man longed for companionship which was often in the arms of the Mistress’ of the night. No woman in her right mind would risk a relationship with a Werewolf and he didn’t blame them. With an exasperated huff, he took a seat on a nearby park bench and waited patiently for the day to be over with.
