Tonks sat up in the living room. It was dark and the only other soul in the old room, or for that matter in the entire house, was sitting right next to her. Remus Lupin sat breathing deeply he had just returned from a long mission and now simply wished to rest near the woman he refused to admit love for. Tonks' hand lay on his; her warmth running into him and slowly bringing him back to his senses. Now her hand moved to his shoulder and she rest her head on it. "Remus what happened?" Tonks questioned as Remus stared into the glowing fire. "Please, I want to know. It would make you feel better to tell me." Every time he spoke to her it made him feel better, but now she was too close far too close for her own good. "I can't, Tonks. I really just can't" "A silent tear fell down Tonks' cheek.’But why in the bleeding hell not?' Tonks thought to herself. She sat up and stared into his face. "Remus look at me." Friendliness, gentleness, Strangers to my life, They are there in his face. "I know what you go through is unbearably painful but I want you to know that I want you and me to work this out. We can work this out if you only talk and I listen for once," Tonks pleaded with Remus who now looked at her with his pale blue eyes. She wasn’t talking about his mission, and he knew that. No, she was now talking about the odd air that hung between them no matter how the tried to ignore it. "Nymphadora, I told you so many times we can't be. This will not work no matter what we may try. I do not love you the way you love me,"Remus stated quite frankly, even though it was a complete lie. "Remus you're not being truthful with me... I can always tell when you are lying to me. So... so just stop!" Tonks got up from the couch and walked over to the mantel. She turned around to Remus who was now looking at her. Goodness and sweetness And kindness Abound in this place Remus got of the couch and walked over to her. He took both her hands in his and held them tightly. "Tonks can... we wait. I do know you know that I love you, but after what happened with Sirius I think we both need some time to cope." There he went brining Sirius back up. He always seemed to do that just as they were about to make a milestone move, and that's why Tonks and Remus where still at square one of a relationship. "No, WE can't wait. I can't wait!" Tonks was furious. She turned on her heel and stormed up out of the room, up to the old stairs, and into her room where she slammed the door behind her. I am in love With the things That I see in his face - Tonks didn't even go to her bed to lay down she just sort of collapsed near the door. A soft knock on her door brought her back to reality. "Go away, Remus! Can't you bloody see I'm angry with you?" But Remus walked in despite her pleas. "Tonks, you need to know that I really do love you, and that I would go to the ends of the earth just to bring you back a dandelion if you wanted me to. It's just right now I can't be in a relationship with any one not just you. Please, try to understand." Tonks sat up and looked at Remus. It's a memory I know Time will never erase... "I do." |
